Matt Phillips

As an illustrator and fine artist, I use a variety of techniques and materials to create my images. Subject matter guides this creative process, but usually I like to start with ink, pencil or watercolour. In my illustrations, I sometimes incorporate digital content, such as texture or photographic elements.

Working together with someone commissioning new work is always enjoyable, from establishing the tone of a piece to working within the specifications of a job. It’s an interesting process, requiring adaptability and an array of creative tools.

My artwork is more self-generated, and typically responds to my environment. I’m particularly keen on desert landscapes, and characterful buildings that hint at narrative within. My paintings are oil or acrylic, and sometimes contain sculptural elements, such as welded metal frames, or panels of wood.
